Georgia Holiday from Dubai: A 5-Day Plan for Families and Couples
Plan a 5-day Georgia holiday from Dubai: Tbilisi, Kazbegi mountains, Kakheti wine country and more. Tips for families and couples, best seasons and visa checks.
Georgia has become one of the favourite short holidays for UAE residents, and it is easy to see why. Flights from the UAE are short, the mountains are green and dramatic, the food is hearty, and the people are famous for their hospitality. In just five days, you can enjoy a lively capital, snowy peaks and quiet villages.
This guide shares a simple 5-day plan that works well for both families and couples, plus practical tips before you book.
Why Georgia works so well from the UAE
- Short travel time. Direct flights from the UAE usually take around three hours or so, so you lose less time travelling.
- Cool weather. It is a welcome break from the Gulf summer heat.
- Variety. City, mountains, lakes and wine country, all within a few hours' drive.
- Family-friendly. Parks, cable cars and easy walks keep children happy.
- Romantic. Old town balconies, mountain views and cosy dinners suit couples.
Your 5-day Georgia plan
Day 1: Arrive in Tbilisi
Land in Tbilisi and check in to your hotel. In the evening, stroll through the Old Town, with its colourful wooden balconies and narrow lanes. Take the cable car up to Narikala Fortress for sunset views over the city. Families will enjoy the open spaces of Rike Park, while couples may prefer a quiet dinner by the river.
Day 2: Tbilisi city tour
Spend the day exploring the capital:
- The sulphur bath district in Abanotubani
- The Peace Bridge and the riverside walk
- Rustaveli Avenue for shops and cafes
- Mtatsminda Park, a hilltop park with rides and great views, popular with children
Try local dishes such as khachapuri (cheese bread) and khinkali (dumplings). Halal options are available in many parts of Tbilisi; ask us for family-friendly suggestions.
Day 3: Kazbegi and the Georgian Military Road
This is often the highlight of the trip. Drive north along the scenic Georgian Military Road, stopping at:
- Ananuri Fortress beside a turquoise reservoir
- Gudauri, a mountain resort with viewpoints, and snow in winter
- Gergeti Trinity Church, set high above the town of Stepantsminda with Mount Kazbek behind it
The drive is long but beautiful. Bring warm layers, even in summer, as mountain weather changes quickly.
Day 4: Kakheti or Mtskheta
Choose the day trip that suits you best:
- Kakheti and Sighnaghi: the "City of Love" is a hilltop town with views over the Alazani Valley. Couples love it, and families can enjoy the walls, gardens and local bakeries.
- Mtskheta: a short drive from Tbilisi, this ancient town has historic churches and a calm riverside setting. It is a good choice for families with young children who prefer a shorter drive.
Day 5: Shopping and departure
Pick up souvenirs such as spices, churchkhela (a traditional sweet) and handmade crafts. Depending on your flight time, enjoy a final walk or a relaxed lunch before heading to the airport.
Tips for families
- Choose hotels with family rooms or apartments.
- Plan shorter drive days if your children get car sick.
- Book a private car with child seats for comfort and safety.
- Keep snacks and water handy on mountain days.
Tips for couples
- Stay in the Old Town for a romantic atmosphere.
- Plan a sunset at Narikala or Gergeti.
- Consider an overnight in Kazbegi or Sighnaghi for a slower pace.
Best time to visit
- Spring (April to June): green valleys and mild weather.
- Summer (June to August): popular with UAE families escaping the heat.
- Autumn (September to October): golden colours and harvest season in Kakheti.
- Winter (December to March): snow in Gudauri, great for families who want to see snow.
